Saturday's, holidays, easy afternoon
Lazy days, summer days, nothing much to do
Rainy days are better days, for hanging out inside
Rainy days and city ways make me want to hide
Someplace cool and green and shady.

Find yourself a piece of grassy ground
Lay down, close your eyes
Find yourself and maybe lose yourself
While your free spirit flies
(musical interlude)

August skies, lullabys, promises to keep
Dandelions and twisting vines, Clover at your feet
Memories of Aspen leaves, trembling on the wind
Honeybees and fantasies
Where to start again
Someplace cool and green and shady

Cool and green and shady
Cool and green and shady
Cool and green and shady
Cool and green and shady

  • Most unusual. Never heard it before. Pleasant, but not a masterpiece. Interesting one. thanks for posting.

  • Brilliant song, amazing guy, sadly missed and so under-rated !!

Thank you so much for reminding me.

  • Thank you Jon for forwarding me this song. I've never experienced it and it absolutely resonated with me.

  • I've been looking for this song everywhere! Thank you.

  • I used to sing this song all the time when I was out trail riding with my horse Star (her show name? "Aspenstarwood"). None of my friends liked John Denver, but being as I was a loner anyway, didn't matter to me one bit what they thought. His songs always calmed me down from being so dang hyper, and also seemed to always soothe the high-strung horses that I trained and rehabilitated too!

  • shame on whoever gave a thumbs down! Must be a mistake.

  • wish you were still here John
