I just saw your comment about Norton. I lived in Redfield before moving to base housing, from which I could easily walk to my off-base office at BMO every day. I loved my job because it was very interesting work.. I too, miss the base where I first saw an air show with an SR-71 do a near-sonic flyover. Great memories all.

Boeing finally delivered this aircraft to the USAF somewhere between 1972-74. It was assigned to the 410 Bomb Wing at K.I. Sawyer AFB until the base closed.

Buff has no way of dumping fuel. It has to burn it first to get below 300k gross to land safely. We lost an entire pod (2 engines) and had to fly some 5 hours to meet the min to land. Americas Bomber of Choice.
