  • C6add9? That chord is called C6 9 with the six above the nine. There is no need to insert the "add".

  • You're right, and since the version of Microsoft Movie Maker I use doesn't allow titles that have superscript text, I really should have said C6/9. Although C6add9 is not technically wrong (it's meaning can't really be disputed) it IS a C6 with an added 9th.

  • @hooyacrusty Doesnt a C9 chord have a minor 7th by default? and an add9 chord is a major chord with an added 9...

  • @bassman615 right, a C9 has a flat 7th. And yes, an add9 is a major chord with an added 9th. Not sure where you're going with this though...

  • awesome track! i'm a beginner at jazz, and this is very hard (for me), but this will really help me in jazz band :D

  • I'm getting really good at this. Thanks for uploading bro

  • thank you for making this track! I am now just playing along this track. its just the right way to practice improvisation. and its real fun ! it helps me much more than practicing licks.

  • I remember myself six months ago, watching this video and thinking "omg, that's too complex for me!" Poor child... ;)

And I've got plenty to learn yet!

  • so this is steel string acoustic guitar heaven

  • @HENRYPOTAT0 lol u owned him

  • I am 75 bass player and love this old jazz standard. I really enjoy the bass line and showing chord changes with music is a big assist in working up a jazz bass line. I would really appreciate more like this ans I am subscribing.

  • thank you so much for this! i've been in jazz band at my high school for 2 years now, and if it weren't for videos like this i'd have never made any progress with jazz soloing. thank you!

  • @Sunderlanding just to back up hooyaycrusty (nice video by the way) C6add9 is the same as C6/9

The reason you think that's the right way is because you saw this tune in the real book or something and that's how berklee press does shit.

Plenty of people use "add" for chord tones 9,11, and 13 because they're not always necessary to the chord function, like in this case.

  • wow, I am new too, but I just try to play it and have fun and learn, Thats all I do, this was a good backing track to me. I do not know a lot about all this just trying to learn is all. I am finally getting some understanding about modes, sheww wee makes my head hurt lol

  • Thanks a bunch. I'm a beginner in the jazz world and have trouble hearing the chord changes, even when reading from a realbook. But these backing tracks are helping me learn to hear when these changes occur and now I can play the tunes on my own. These are a great stepping stone to help get acquainted with jazz harmony.
