  • Hi, Rogers got some things right, but he may have been too indulgent of others - unconditional positive regard is inappropriate with somebody who has, or is about to, shoot you! Or mug your mother! Compassion for the client is much more defensible than UPR or Unconditional Other Acceptance (UOA). Compassion for their suffering does not imply a commitment to accept them if they act immorally! Very important distinction. Best wishes, Jim

  • thanks :) I was debating this as well, I just couldn't see how telling someone to stop being irrational about a case such as this could help the client. Sometimes you just got to throw in some Rogerian methods before shooting the gun at the IB's.
