This is an elephant-bull named "Duke". He is probably the biggest bigtusker roaming the earth. We crossed his path in Kruger National Park, South Adrica. (the "comment" in the back is from our babygirl Anouck)

  • Duke died today (7/10/11) - apparently of natural causes - approximately 55yrs old. RIP big guy!

  • @bokmad Thanks for this info. That's very sad news... He was our favorite elephant, he left a big impression on us....

  • When was this filmed? Comments on another video claim he lost a tusk a few months ago. Nice video.

  • Thanks! We filmed it in may 2006. And it's true: Duke lost his tusk last august...

  • @wimenviv At least he did not fall to poachers and lived many happy years in the Park.

  • @awbvrou Poor Duke...he lost both of his tusks...

But he still is huge. I think too many people think that certain bull elephants are big just because they have large tusks.

  • Duke is at the moment tuskless as both tusks have broken off - one slightly longer than the other & both are now approx 40cm long. Both broken tusks were recovered by park rangers. He was a one tusker for a while, very sad that he now has neither tusk left. I saw him during December 2010. You will not beleive that it`s the same guy as in this video. It is thought that both tusks had broken off in two separate scuffles with the same elephant bull roaming the same area as Duke.
  • awesome

  • he is lovely

  • Dam thats one big elephant

  • A pity about the lost tusk! A beautiful elephant!

  • That's a real shame. We are going to the KNP in August and had planned a Duke hunt. He must be getting very long in the tooth now.
