2002 Acura RSX Type-S w/ ~93,000 miles.
As you can hear in the video, there is a rattle that occurs when lifting the throttle @ approx 3500 RPM, and continues to rattle as it decels below ~3200 RPM.

This rattle occurs intermittently at low RPM's in all gears, typically at low speeds. However, this rattle is most easily reproduced by lifting at ~3500 RPM as demonstrated in this video.

Some usual culprits were identified and ruled out. I removed the half-shaft axle heat shield, to no effect. I also removed the plastic VTEC cover, also to no effect. The exhaust manifold heat shield felt solidly attached when pushing it by hand.

  • it's the heat shield

    tighten the screws thats it

  • I checked all of the heat shields, and even removed the half-shaft heat shield.

  • Do you issues with clearance with an aftermarket front strut bar? Or did you relocate your front license plate? Those were problems for me, but an easy fix

  • No, everything is totally stock! The front license plate is actually not there (wasn't there when I bought the car).

  • My G37 has the same sound pretty much. Did you fix yours?

I am going to dealership in next few days and mention loose heat shield to see if that fixes it.

  • Check the timing chain tensioner. Manual says nothing about it but they tend to fail around 100k easy part to replace. Hope that helps

  • this is exactly the sound my car has been making, i just posted a video today. but mine is at 1500rpms. PLEASE tell me you found out what was wrong with it. it's driving me CRAAAZY!

  • It's most likely the FLEX GASKET in between your header downpipe and where the cat meet.. I have something similar , but not as bad as yours.

    check that out..

  • maybe its a broken mount, cuz rsx come with weak stock motor mounts

  • Tighten the heat shield. Happened on our 04 honda odyssey. Honda was going to charge us like 300 dollars but we went to a local mechanic and they fixed it for 20 bucks

  • @howheels

Have you checked your plates around the Cat converter? I had a annoying rattle on my 2002 RSX at around 3,000rpm but later fixed that by tightening up a bolt to the heatshield underneath the car.

  • hi bro.. so wat goin with the rattle sound now.. is it fixed? i got the same prob..

  • the header or a mount?
