  • no instruments + night time = doomed

no instruments + day time = no trouble

  • Well actually, no instruments at daytime is also pretty troublesome. There is a very high chance of survival, but it needs the speed indicator anyhow, since landing is very very critical depending on speed.

But indeed, no instruments+deep night = doom

  • This would not have happened with the early non computerized instruments in a 707 DC-8 or other early jet airliners

  • Orange Annoying

  • warum hatte des Flugzeug keinen künstlichen mechanischen(ersatz)Horizont eingebaut??

  • @TDKgye No I think they wanted another palne to guide them to the landing road. It actually could be used but this extremely dangerous for different reasons.

  • @Mayumiko and on the flip side, no airspeed would mean how would u know if your overspeed? u could break up in mid-air. the only thing u can go on is throttle %

  • the air traffic controller is Joey Jeremiah of Degrassi!

  • Poor souls were doomed by small piece of tape left on a critical sensor. it was covered by maintenance when the plane was washed to keep water out but was then not removed. During the pilots pre-flight walk-around a small piece of tape could easily not be noticed. Ive flown on planes that had tape covering places where paint had been chipped so its easy to go unnoticed. BTW even the plane mfr was not aware the covering of this sensor could cause the conflicting symptoms the pilots encountered.

  • The atc radar used the altitude transmitted from the plane to show altitude so it only led the pilots to think they were climbing when actually the plane was diving. The overspeed indication also led them to cut throttle which increased the decent rate. Finally the rescue plane mentioned was a request for another plane to meet them so they could follow its lights back to land where they could then use visual navigation to make it back to the runway. A plane was being readied to guide them.

  • I found some other information on this crash that might answer some questions that were posted.

The initial graphic of the hijack plane footage was because it provided a scene similar to when the pilots noticed that the altitude was so low the wing was striking the water. The pilots delayed an immediate turn around to try and diagnose the problem they were having. By the time they decided they needed help the plane was already out of sight of land or lights on the ground.

  • omg i always wonder if air crash victims all sitting together waiting to board the plane feel any strange or weird feelings that something is going to happen :( no one deserves to go through this
