It's high time that the hypocrisy of 'official' Catholics is exposed for all the world to see; not out of a sense of vigilante justice, but out of a sense of charity
@tour86rocker So far as I know, an endowed professor at a teaching institution must teach. He generally teaches one course a semester (based on his book "Catholicism"), along with some advising. He is a minority voice in the Theology department, and most of his students, as well as the campus community, regard him as a joke -- someone stuck in the past about to go the way of the dinosaurs. He writes for liberal rags, but is completely impotent in my opinion.
I would like to highlight the fact that these actions, hypocritical yes, are conducted by the current administration of Notre Dame, and the administration is one part of "Notre Dame." While the administration is not stellar, there are many shining lights, amongst the student body AND Theo dept. Also, Fr. McBrien at this time has tenure, so there is no way to boot him legally. However, he and others constitute an "old guard" which is quickly passing away as the dept becomes more orthodox.
I'm beginning to believe this hypocrisy is deep seeded and the laity needs to know. Recently, some friends told me of the extent of corruption in my Dioceses. I was shocked to hear holy men being turned away from seminaries for "mental/emotional reasons" while others were being embraced. They invited me to read 'Goodbye! Good Men: How Catholic Seminaries Turned Away Two Generations of Vocations From the Priesthood.'
One can only hope that the recent removal of a heretical Bishop in Australia is a sign of things to come. Perhaps someone can bring the vaticans attention to this (and other) issues.
First, thank you for continuing to be courageous in the faith, Michael. And second, I marvel at how easy it was for satan to corrupt our Catholic offices. I guess that we are all men makes us weak but not weak from being just men. Weak from being men that have turned their backs on God, His Son, and the Son's Mother. I named my first born after Mary for I believe. And it was our hope that our daughter would attend ND. No longer and I have called the university and told them so.
Threatening a frail lady in her 80's who peacefully protested...threatening her with jail time...... is a horrendous act..... There's no excuse.
