It was a great turnout at Rhodes' celebration for its being named the Most Serviced-Minded School in America by Newsweek.

The gathering was well attended by students, faculty and staff, alumni, trustees, civic leaders and community partners. Also in attendance were Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen, Rhodes' Board of Trustees Chair Bill Michaelcheck, Immediate Past Chair Spence Wilson and Trustee Emerita Beth Simpson '58.

Simpson was acknowledged as the first coordinator of the college's Kinney Program based on volunteerism, leadership and civic engagement.

The celebration also was featured on MyFox Memphis including an interview with Rhodes student and Truman Scholar Eric Dailey. "Rhodes is intentional about finding students who not only excel in the classroom but also outside of the classroom. Again it′s great that all of our efforts have paid off and our students are happy to go out in the community and to help."

"They [students] are inspiring. They are just terrific. They are number one," said Rhodes President, William E. Troutt.
