This is one great movie thanks...

Nostalgic.

I have always thought this scene (brilliant as it is on its own), owed a lot to Tarkovsky's train scene from Stalker. A person who loves this movie should love that as well, I would think.

Modern Westerns usually always have good cinematography, but this movie's cinematography is beyond amazing, along with the acting.

my 2 favorite westerns of all time
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Appaloosa

people dont understand in general the atmosphere of this scene, the thought that these men will rob this train and could kill you in cold blood, its the coldness and darkness of this scene is what haunts me

At 1:41 the best visual shot of Jesse James in the whole movie

yeah...and let's talk about the score for this film. Really ties it all together...so well!
for several seconds we, the audience, are in complete darkness and can only hear the oncoming train...
then we see that headlight coming round the corner...and the music starts...
that's just great movie-making. i love this scene

Indeed. Ever since I saw the film( a while ago) I came on hear, searching for this scene. No one ever uploaded it.
Notice how the gang-members are like monsters, and how Jesse is propped up like some larger than life god, with the steam engulfing him---all set to the haunting music. Truly perfect direction, in my opinion.
