pitch mod for Gameboy

There's been some talk at some 8bit forums and lists about under- or overclocking a Gameboy to be able to pitch its sound. The only solution people found so far was replacing the cristal that produces the cpu's clock speed with another cristal with a different frequency. By doing that, you could change the pitch to either higher or lower but not continuously change it, which would be better for music stuff.
Quite a while ago I stumbled across a nice tutorial on http://www.sailormouth.org about using a LTC1799 oscillator IC as a stable replacement for about anything that produces a clock signal (Xtal, coil, resonator, whatever). I've used those on a lot of my bent instruments so it was kinda logical to try it on my Gameboy, too.

Congratulations, you seem to have this very rare ability to grasp the obvious. And actually, that's precisely what I'm talking about in my video.

Then again I don't quite understand how that makes me suck. As far as I know, that is the only way to pitch bend a Gameboy, but please feel invited to correct me.

eigentlich nicht. Im Prinzip kann man den Schaltplan aus dem Datenblatt übernehmen. An zusätzlichen Bauteilen braucht man außer dem LTC1799 nur einen Kondensator, einen Widerstand und einen Poti. Man sollte halt seinen Kaffee-/Drogen-/Alkoholkonsum während der Arbeit im Blick haben wegen SMD.
