Is John 3:16 "the gospel in a single verse"? And does it effectively counteract the Reformed notion of God's sovereignty in salvation? That's what Jim McClarty discusses in this short video, with a bit of exegesis and word study.

  • I really enjoyed your video. You have a wonderful way of presenting. I would move the mic out of the way. It's kind of a distraction.

  • @adsloganville - Thanks very much for the good words. Yeh, that microphone is a bit of a conundrum. I love the way it sounds, but it needs to be pretty directly in front of me. I realize it's a distraction, but I haven't quite figured out what to do with it. Nevertheless, I appreciate the feedback and the kind words.

  • @TheotherPrometheus - Thanks for the dictionary definition. It's good support to what we've presented here.

  • Hi Jim, I thought I'd share this translation of John 3:16

John 3:16 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

"For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life."

  • @Uolive18 - Thanks for this additional info.

  • @ContextualTruth Halleujah praise God for his unconditional love towards us in Christ!

  • @RememberTheNameYaDig But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (Gal 4:4-7, KJV)

  • @RememberTheNameYaDig We are not sons of God until we are saved.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Rom 8:14, KJV)

  • i dont understand i thought we were all sons and daughters of God.but im only 11 so if im missing something please tell me thanks.

  • This is kind of funny...but I didn't notice the microphone, until I read that other comment!!! Thanks for keeping it so simple.

  • Great video, message, the whole thing! God uses you in great ways brother

  • Who are all the believing? Where did they come from? They came from the lost, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So God saves those who without Him would go to hell. Does He save then then against their own free will?

  • Thank you Mr. McClarty.. I looked this up for myself in the Strong's after watching this a little while ago and saw what you said.. I learned something new that cannot be ignored.. I look forward to watching more videos and I have shared this one with a couple of friends.. Thank you..

  • @Uolive18 I would change one thing to the Holman translation. It should be "His only begottan Son", because those who believe are also called "sons of God", but only Christ was begottan of the Father, meaning he came from God and was virgin born by the seed of the Holy Spirit taking on a human body. The translation "one and only son" is a false teaching...one of many problems I have seen with the Alexandrian text. Other than that, I agree the video. Well done.

  • Love your videos. Great message. God bless
