@dmdjm most new immigrants come to edmonton. Edmonton is a bit more diverse.

Edmonton is industry work, calgary is more business work. Edmonton has a slightly lower cost of living.

both are good cities with lots of work oportunities and very similar. whichever you prefer. As a new immigrant you may prefer edmonton though, and have an easier time finding people who speak your native language.

I admit you have better marketers. The largest rodeo is actually in edmonton, not calgary. silly that people think of cowboys when they think of either city. I certainly do not. I think of bankers when I think of calgary and oil when I think of edmonton.

The reason I am posting though is your reference to the economist survey of livability. Their survey does not take into account living expenses or job availability. Two very important factors when looking at "livability".

@darrellinyvr it is a pretty big deal that were closer to the Rockies, we've got world class ski resorts and national parks just 1.5 hours away while you guys have to drive for 4 hours just to get to Jasper. Calgary was even named the 5th most liveable in the world last year, Edmonton didn't even make the list. Calgary has no culture? When people think of Calgary they think of Cowboys and the Stampede, when people think of Edmonton, nothing really comes to mind.
