During the summer of '05, the Supernatural pilot was leaked on the internet for those online to view early. The version that aired on September 13th, 2005 was almost entirely the same. EXCEPT the score and soundtrack music was different. In the case of the score, for most places, the pre-aired version consisted of just preliminary tracks that were expanded upon in greater detail on the aired version. But in this sequence, starting from Dean and Sam arguing while running down the stairs and continuing as they go outside to The Impala, (in contrast to the aired version of the indistinct creepy clangor) was featured with a sentimental score in the pre-aired version, giving the sequence a completely different feel. I'd argue this version gives a certain importance to this key scene, highlighting an underlining bond between the brothers as well as bring a sort of noblity to the job the family performs. All of which is incredibly essential to this pilot's success.

  • thank god they changed it. this sounds like a great reveal in a motion picture...the 'rose letting jack go', the 'e.t going home' scenes etc etc lol this score is defintely more suited to an ending to a movie themed with tears of happiness, yet caused by sadness.

haha..i do make sense sometimes if i try :)

thnx for uploading! you wouldnt have the preaired version of metallicar used in the gas station scene would you? and apparently 50 cent played at sam and jess' halloween party

  • Well, it's all a matter of opinion of course. For myself, when I show a new person the show, I show them this version instead, since it seems to have better results. It is an important scene, arguably the most important in the pilot and I really think this score highlights it where the aired one didn't. The music speaks of the deep history behind them which IS filled with tragedy like those you mention, though not expressed nearly as syrupy. If that makes any sense. :)

  • Anyway, yes, I have uploaded the original gas station scene too. The link is now in this video's description above. Enjoy!

  • I love how blatantly expositional this scene is

  • for some reson the video of the impla was not allowed

  • Haha I think this is one of the worst scenes in supernatural history

  • i didnt find it that bad actually... i mean, the other version suits the show more but this isnt THAT bad.. kinda emotional.

  • Ahh, I'm so GLAD they changed it. It's sounds like a music score from Inge Lindstrom movie. Although, the music in this clip when they were talking about apple-pie life it's not so bad.

  • wow that music was completely awful... it totally ruined it

  • The aired version set the show up better. Moments like this with music like this are rarely if ever seen on SPN. I like it, but it doesn't feel like the same show. Feels like a set up for a movie, actually.
