  • Hi I have a question that hopefully someone can answer???

Why sometimes do I see Amharic written as numbers in small boxes???? Like this

    12

    a5

    (With a box around it)

Is this Amharic??? Or a different Ethiopian dialect? I do not see it as often but whenever I see it Written sites claim it is Amharic too, I really love the look of it and I would love to know what it is called when you write Amharic in this way and how could I learn this???

Please if somebody could reply, thank you.

  • The Fidel Matrix has 32 characters really, the rest are expansions with vowels where each character is expanded with 1+6 vowels. The first vowel is included in the first column of characters, the rest six give the expansion syllabic symbols in each row. As in ሀ(h) is expanded to ሁ(hu), to ሂ(he) to ሃ(ha), to ሄ(hay?) ፣ ህ(h?) and ሆ(ho)። The Latin alphabet writes an independent symbol next the consonant, the Fidel puts a symbol on the consonant.

  • the only traditional character in africa

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • yeah there is a noticeable resemblance between the ethiopian letter 's' and the arabic 'sin' [s]. They both have the three prong shape. As do the Hebrew 'ש' and the Cyrillic ш also although they represent the [sh] sound. S(h)ibboleth? heheh

  • Enday!! amesegenalo. I sure miss Ethiopia, beautiful women, blue and white taxis, men holding hands, the name Fikre, dirty roads, toliets on the ground, Edna mall and the over crowded conditions, birr, beautiful women, beatum konjo, beautiful natural women, Kadis coffee, Hilina Abate, people who wear crosses, seeing Muslims......oh I miss Ethiopia, and I'm not even from there. t.s.

  • Enday!! amesegenalo.

  • it's written like greek

they were friends in the ancient time, and we still find some ethiopian princes in greek painting or litterature lollll , but any historian has never mentionned that reality, so what's the problem ?
