The Kenya Transport Association has called off its strike action which begun on Monday. This is following the conclusion of day long talks between the Association and the Mombasa Municipal Council that have resulted in the reduction of parking fees on cargo trucks. The Council has agreed to cut the levy to between 150 shillings and 450 shillings per truck depending on the size of the vehicle. The fee had earlier been set at between 600 shillings and 1000 shillings per truck. The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the Kenya Maritime Authority, has also set the clamping fee on trucks at 6000 shillings.Meanwhile, the ban on the parking of trucks and tankers on road shoulders and estates has been upheld. This category of vehicles will from now on be required to park at designated areas at Kibarani, Magongo, Changamwe and Miritini.
