Can someone please tell me what year this is or how I can find a digital audio version? Thanks very much.

yes, that's bach The Well-Tempered Clavier as far as I remember - in a certain part of this song, other parts - just Nina playing in "bach" style I would say ))

Will people hate me if I say I don't like it? There is no connection between the text an the music here.

I see your point very well. I find this particular performance very special - in my opinion it's more like a demonstration how great Nina is at playing the piano, making renditions of well-known songs and transforming her classical music basis into her own style ))

I know that people often make fun of others that click on "dislike" and I don't bother with that. But here - I really have to scratch my head and wonder why someone would bother to click "dislike" in the face of such a performance of piano and voice and style. For heavens sake if you don't get it then just - move on. Thanks for posting this. I am only familiar with the original studio recording.

I didn't like this live version the first time I heard it, but eventually came to understand how complex and magnificent it is, a true showcase of her monstrous ability. I could watch the end over and over forever

There can be no better synchronisation between the text and the music here. This is a truly brilliant performance. Saying there's no connection here is like saying the stars do not fit in the sky...

Nina Simone played the Montreux Jazz Fest in 1976, 1987, and 1990, so it's one of those.

I think it is more on the play of staccato and how Bach used it in his music and of course the use of it in Jazz music.

Actually it's from her 3rd appearance at Montreux Fest, in 1987. On the 10th of July, to be more precise.
