He stands in one place and yet is somehow forced to keep moving forward. This is the best way of introducing the film's themes. Also good song.

The Graduate featured 30-years olds as teenagers before 90210 made it cool.

This movie is so sad when you are watching it as a high school senior or college student because you are afraid that this could happen to you.

Also, does Dustin Hoffman smile for more than 2 sec in this movie?

It's as if he's okay with going home, but is in no great rush...because he knows he's enjoying one of the last few moments of solitude he'll have for several weeks. You can just sense that postgrad question, "Am I returning home, or leaving?"

Count, Hoffman was 29 when "The Graduate" was filmed in the Spring of 1967. He was playing a college graduate, which would have made his character at least 22 years old. With Hoffman's boyish looks, he could've easily passed as a 22-year old in 1967.

If you guys get a chance, watch the similarities between this opening scene and Quintin Tarantinos opening scene in Jackie Brown. Not sure if it was an homage just thought it was funny.
