For the project "Itinerarios del sonido" (curated by María Bella and Miguel Álvarez-Fernández) fourteen internationally recognized artists were invited (in many cases, for the first time) to Madrid, in order to select a particular public space in the city and create a new sound piece that later would be listened to in that very place, using a sound device installed in the closest bus-stop. Participants of this project included Vito Acconci, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, Julio Estrada, Luc Ferrari, Bill Fontana, Susan Hiller, Christina Kubisch, Fernando Millán, Kristin Oppenheim, Joao Penalva, Adrian Piper, Francisco Ruiz de Infante, Daniel Samoilovich and Trevor Wishart.

http://www.itinerariosdelsonido.org is the website of 'Itinerarios del sonido', an artists' project that is curated by Maria Bella and Miguel Alvarez-Fernandez. The curators invited fourteen artists representing a wide variety of nationalities and disciplines (including composers, visual artists and poets among others) to choose a site within the city of Madrid and create a sound piece based on that context. These fourteen artists visited the city between December 2004 and January 2005 in order to plan their pieces. Each of these sound works was installed at a bus stop chosen by the individual artist. From the 20th May to the 25th of September, 2005, the public was able to listen to these sound pieces by simply plugging in their headphones at each bus stop shelter. This was meant as an invitation to confront the private experience of listening within public and urban contexts. 'Itinerarios del sonido' is a collaborative project involving the Area de las Artes del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, the Centro Cultural Conde Duque and the Residencia de Estudiantes. The website contains details of the project, the artists involved and the curators. There are also still images, examples of the artists' sound work (using Flash), and videos of many of the artists involved talking about their participation.
