A Level music like this is awesome.

I played this in orchestra, and in my quartet a few years ago. I love this piece to death :)

Hauntingly beautiful, it's fantastic

A truly amazing genius of a man. His music speaks volumes of his own struggles and of the dignity and frailty of human beings.

wow whoever disliked this should be disimbelished from the presence of music. I played this a year ago, it is the best strings piece i have ever heard.

this piece perfectly portrays Shostakovich in the time of writing, diagnosed with an incurable illness and still able to produce music of this caliber. I find it infinately sad, can also hear elements of his 5th and 1st symphonys incorporated into the piece. As well as the cypher if you look at the recurring motif and spell the notes (German Versions) it spells his initials :), beautiful piece summing up his life perfectly.
