Here's a piece I shot and cut together for Sifu Gary Lam. It's a look at his 2009 seminar conducted in Burbank. For more information on Gary Lam, go to: http://www.facebook.com/garylamwc

  • How tall is Gary?

  • He's 6'1".

  • Are there any videos of Gary Lam in the Hong Kong MMA tournament? If so, any idea where I can buy the DVD's? I would love to watch them.

  • I don't know. Probably not. I'll ask him the next time I see him. I know that if you watch "The Science of Infighting" DVD he made with Wong Shun Leung, you can see him training with Wong.

  • anyone know if wong chun leung is alive ?

  • Wong Shun Leung died in 1997.

  • the thing is that if someone would attack my family or my children i would not hesitate to kill him or at least hurt him as bad as i have to to stop the attacker if i know wing chun! No martial art is designed to be used in everyday life but as a self defence. And in self defence i would not chose the weapon. I would use it!!!

  • He needs to do a seminar in NYC. I'd definitely attend!

  • Wow.

  • @AznSwordGod I doubt it. More than half of the WC fighting system are illegal in MMA. WC is not a sport, it is a close-range fighting system based on kung fu, and designed to kill. A WC black-belt equiv level fighter would attack the joint with an illegal stomp kick to the knee of a muay thai fighter, ending the fight, or illegal strike to a jujitsu take-down, ending the fight. Not good for sports like MMA.

p.s. so, in that sort of exchange you can either 1-hurt someone badly, 2- keep backing up because they use tremendous force and don't yield to acknowledge that your technique overcame theirs and try to see what can be learned. 3- use the same wrestling brute strength and pretend to be playing Wing Chun. In WC you win by losing.

  • @papertiger7

Your seem to have a good point. Until... you realize that WC is deadly, not a sport. So we can only sort of pretend to apply it in practice because to use the laser strikes at the right moments instead of NOT killing one another is actually not possible. So what we can really examine when we spar is the application of the mechanics of the art. In this way when one person seems to be beating on another it often means they are not comparing knowledge but instead using brute force.

  • @heartslord Yeah sure, he can whoop the majority of so called Wing Chun masters today regardless of whether it doesn't "achieve the so called WC scientific standard".

  • Sifu Gary lam is amazing...

  • enjoyed the video .. much appreciated
