  • @TheLeprechaunLad An the world would have been a worse off. The flight of the earls was the begining of what would make Ireland something that today England wouldn't dream of touching. Legacy baby its more powerful than any standing army. 70 million people around the world claim Irish ancestory. You hear of how the Irish did that or the Irish did this. The Irish made the world in the image it is right now look at those that run America check out their last names they'll be nearly all Irish.

  • My family the true Celts died for the people Of Ireland . An before the flight My FAMILY Gave Ire. Meany Kings that fought off England !! • I would not leave id stay and FIGHT

  • @MrMarcusirish Hugely oversimplified revisionism.

  • The flight of the Earls was a simple example of some gentrified nobility being forced to leave their country by some other gentrified nobilty, do you think O'Neill and O'Donnell gave a monkeys for the peasants who occupied 90% of the land, not really, Elizabeth knew what he was up to so it was simple decision, leave Ireland or die! Most of the peasentry of Ireland were glad to see the back of them- stop romanticising it all?

  • Fenian

They intended to return. O Neill never gave up hope of returning even untill the year of his death he still was hoping to return with a foreign army.

  • The earls left us to the mercy of the British. They should have stayed and fought, at least they would have been heros not cowards.

  • wow!

  • interesting
