God..... give us more preacher's of old!
www.weepingprophets.com/dareing
Sermon from M.R. Dareing (1899-1984) Miami,Oklahoma. Date unknown.

Story about M.R. from Grandson below:

When he was in the Nursing Home in Miami, my folks went down every Saturday to visit, I went occasionally. After I first started talking about a call to ministry he gave me a sermon from memory, "GOD WALKS". He started it in the Genesis 3 where God walked in the garden in the cool of the day, God walks. He went to Enoch walked with God and he was not...God Walks. He proceeded to quote scripture regarding God walks related Abraham, Moses, the kings of Israel and Judah, the prophets and finally Jesus. The payoff was simple, "Boy, God Walks! The question is are YOU walking with HIM?" He then told me "That'll preach".

The other thing, that I believe to this day is a book of Joel 2:28 fulfillment, is this. Granddad told me for a solid year, every time I visited him that I needed to go down to Bernice Oklahoma and start a church. I was 18-19 at the time and no clue or intention of starting a church. He told me that every time I came with my folks to visit. Two to three years later the Northeast Baptist Association had an "expert" from either the state or Home Mission Board come in and do a study to determine where the greatest needs were for new works and ministries. The number 1 thing on his report....A new church start in Bernice Oklahoma. They followed up on that and started a church there but Granddad had that vision from his sickbed 3-5 years earlier. To me that is some freaky powerful Holy Spirit, Hand of God stuff.

  • The preacher we had in the church I grew up in, from the time I was in 6th grade until I graduated HS, was a wonderful, caring, loving man who had such a great heart for ministry and helping other people come to God through Jesus. I didn't know at the time that he'd be the best I'd ever encounter. I miss him so much. He was a great listener. I've never found another preacher who is a good listener.

Wish it were easier to find someone who preaches like your grandfather did.

  • I wish it was easier to! thank you very much!

  • May I ask if you or your grandad our apostolic or upc. holiness church, thank you for your response

  • My Grandfather was southernbaptist, I am Free Will Baptist

  • I don't know that preachers are so afraid to preach the Word anymore as much as most are choosing to cater to the world. Many, many Christians are so hungry for old time preaching and can't find it...and it's the preachers who will be held accountable for failing to feed His sheep.
