That was quite a common technique. Reversed holsters for faster weapon draw.

don't like this actor. nope. not at all.

@tacticaltaco I actually draw back-handed like in the video. It's because I am ambidextrous. that might have a part in it. The reversed holster technique is used so the weight of the revolver would be pointing up, not down, so it won't fall out of it's holster while riding horseback.

@southernprideyankee SIR YES SIR

@tacticaltaco Yup, operating along one of the same principles that inspired the thigh holster: a draw by a farther extension of the arm is faster and easier, as the range of motion is less cramped than what is necessary for a hip holster. Of course, the excessive amount of motion necessary to draw on a cross-draw holster renders it impractical and inefficient in today's world.

I saw this video you made when i was in Iraq, everyday after patrol i would run to my laptop and upload this and watch it. No matter how bad the patrol was this always made me happy as hell. This is my favorite movie and one of my favorite songs. this adrenaline pumping music mixed with my favorite western character really helped me through the tough times. Good old nut case Charlie prince and SOBW (they say) Always makes me smile, even when people were shooting at me. Thanks a bunch!
