Last summer I did an on-site (plein air) painting of the Ortega River Bridge (see it on my 2007 review video). While there, I shot a photo of some wild flowers being visited by a bee. That's today's subject. It's an 8x10 oval acrylic painting on a stretched canvas from Hobby Lobby, framed with a metal frame from Walmart. It was painted in one sitting January 9, 2007. The colors and brushes used are shown at the beginning of the film... Starting with white at the top and clockwise: Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Emerald Green, Sap Green, Cobalt blue, Van Dyke Brown,Burnt Umbra, Black, Cad Orange,Cad Yellow Med, Cad Yellow light. It was a lot of fun to paint.

It was time-lapsed using a Sony TRV25 in INTERVAL mode (1/2 second every 30 seconds).

  • what were the colors on your color pallet??

  • Hi, thanks for watching. Starting with white at the top and clockwise: Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Emerald Green, Sap Green, Cobalt blue, Van Dyke Brown,Burnt Umbra, Black, Cad Orange,Cad Yellow Med, Cad Yellow light. I hope this helps. some of these were only used a tiny bit to give some variety to the greens in the background.

  • that was wonderful! how did you make the bee's wings?

  • Thanks for watching... this is acrylic, so the wings were done with a little Liquitex Gloss Gel Medium with a little color mixed in as an overlay, then wing structure details were added with a liner bruch and "ink thin" acrylic paint.

  • Nice,Very Nice Indeed!

  • Thanks... that one was fun to do!
