That is the most intense drummer I've ever seen.

those who cant feel the groove in this probably clap on 1 and 3

My comment is this-they play great and it's interesting to note how jazz has in fact changed- dropping bombs all the time like Brian doe's here would have been unthinkable at one time- during bop and swing eras no one wanted this including band leaders- groove was the thing- whether it was bop or swing groove- now drummers often are encouraged to move in and out explosively- after all their not worried about people dancing anymore so why not? Tony and Miles started it all!!

In a time when most music asks nothing of us and gives even less, this reaffirms my conviction thats its good to be on the planet while this man is making music.

I have to see them again... I hope these guys come my way at least one more time. And I hope that after Wayne is gone, these guys continue as a trio or something.
-
go wayne. i love that little grin at the end.

Wayne is the master, melodies are just floating above the rhythm section!!

Stop arguing 'bout Wayne Shorter, he's a living legend.

This is very hard, if not impossible, to copy on sax.
Why can't people just chill out and enjoy the music? How many of you arm chair critics have accomplished "musically" what Mr. Wayne Shorter has accomplished during his time on this earth making music? How many of you?!? Yeah. I thought so. The word "NONE" comes to mind.

The trio behind Shorter is IMO one of the most reactive, creative and intense that has surfaced in jazz "mainstream" in a few years. There's a good reason why I say "mainstream" and that's because there are a lot of bands as intense as this one but they fall under what one would call "avant-garde". Perez, Patitucci and Blade on the other hand manage to stay melodic throughout their explorations. This demands an amazing degree of mastery, technique and good taste.
