The Soviet Story offers an alternative history of an Allied power, which helped the Nazis to fight Jews and which slaughtered its own people on an industrial scale.
@tabgho 1: You clearly havent read anything Marx has ever written. Communism is pure democracy, with council of workers deciding what to do with the economy and means of production.
2: That's something that Engels wrote in his works about the family and state. Bare in mind, Engels didnt share opinion with marx, he was simply Marx's editor, since Marx wasnt good at writing.
3: Ideal man theory? Also, there was alot of suffering in the USSR. But again, they weren't communist.
@socue521 Also, M&E decided there was no place for the family as a social cell in the communist society. Children were supposed to be "efficient workers" from the age of 9 and the government was to take care of them, not their parents. They brought up the idea of an "open community of wifes" (!)
And you know of this "ideal man" theory and it's idea of destroying those who were a burden to the society. I can tell you a few stories about my great-grandparent's sufferings in the USSR.
@socue521 Well they wanted to establish communism in its true form. That meant everyone had to live in a society, the best representation of which can be a concentration camp or a prison; This society was designed as a large community of workers with nothing to do but work for the good of the state. There was supposed to be no private property (duh), absolute obedience to bureaucracy was expected and basically no democracy and freedom in any form.
@socue521 In the beginning I replied to your comment just to say my opinion: yes the USA did horrible things in its time and it still does (!), but could there be something just as evil what the US planned or did as what Marx and Engels wanted for the world?
@socue521 Eeeexxxacccttttllly! Yeah, what I meant to say was that people will always flee from socialist societies. And so the USSR had to expand, but it wasn't some imperialistic-expansionist desire. It was a fight for survival. The USSR government had to make sure there was no where to run from this "proletarian heaven". => only way out world dominance.
@tabgho However, I assume you mean that Socialism cannot exist alone in a single country, I agree, International Socialism is the only way forwards, and the revolutionary waves across europe in the early nineteenth century, and the recent wave across the middle east show us, revolution is not a single event that happens in a country and stays there, it's a dynamic process that spreads, it's our job to facilitate the spread of revolution, and to be ready for it when it arrives at our doorstep.
@tabgho for a start, Marx Engels and Trotsky weren't leaders. As for not existing normally, considering your terrifying incoherence, it's a little difficult to understand your point.
@socue521 You do not understand: a socialistic government CANNOT exist normally with other countries around it. It will rot from the inside out. Other normal countries are EXAMPLES for comparison for soviet people. So it's not about what Soviet leaders WANTED OR DIDN'T WANT, it was about whether they had a CHOICE or not. And they didn't. Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky, Kamenev, Stalin -- all of them knew that. And so did other leaders after them. The matter was never even questioned.
