Brief demo of the new update for M-RGT Psybox 1.1, a space-atmospheric soundscape generator - made to produce sounds, which can be used to create Ambient and Space Music.

psyBOX uses the samples as a source of spectra splitting them into multiple grains-micro waves and combining them in clusters. Those clusters are formed randomly and they flow from one into another forming infinite drifting morphing.

new version 1.1 features a multieffect processor, a great modulation matrix, 3 LFOs and a step sequencer.

  • Ran, Have you tried the Ambitron ? if so, how does it compare to psyBOX ? is it better ? simular ? would the two go well with each other ?

I am curious as I was going to get psyBOX, but then M-RGT release Ambitron and I like that one as well...your thoughts ?

  • @LMNT115 yes, I've tried Ambitron and it sounds pretty different from Psybox. While this one is more drone oriented, Ambitron focusses in creating strange new sounds, some of them pretty weird and even useless, but always awesome. You can create drones with Ambitron too, but Psybox is really the master in this field. The best choice, for me, is to combine them :)

  • I wish someone would make a hardware synth like this plugin. Thanks for the post Ran.

  • @mattsynth I agree with you, this will be a dream made real for me :)

  • What are the pros with this compared to Reaktor's 'Space Drone'?

  • @LIANG14 I found them similar but not the same. I love them both and use them together sometimes. While SD does great drones, I use it more to create noises and effects like drops, insects and so. PsyBox drones sounds deeper to me and more evolutive in autorun. Also, it has 2 layers, which is a pro for me too, a big mod matrix and the multifx engine can be modulated and synced. While Space Drone runs over Reaktor, This one is a VSTi, so that can also be a pro (or not) for some users I guess.

  • It was made primarily a stand-alone unit and intentionally designed for live gigging over studio recording, but it works great in the studio too, or wherever you want to exploit its grooves.

Computers are OPTIONAL and NOT required for production but it can be midi'd up to a PC/MAC if that how you want to use it.

Mine is NOT hooked to a computer per se, its part of an 8 synth rack/slave midi daisy-chain due to a lack of MIDI THRU, but its controlled by my studio master midi controller workstation

  • these were all presets? How easy(or complicated) is it to create your own sounds compared to more normal vsti's?

  • @RanKirlian Thanks for the in depth reply! Definitely pricked my ears up about this then, two layers of evolving sound... wow. I love these soft drone things, need more! :L
