ATTENTION:
I am not saying that Zeppelin were lousy musicians or that they didn't write great songs, they were and they did. It's just that they also took credit for songs that they didn't write. ...
Since I seem to be getting the same lame excuses thrown at me over and over, I'll save us both some time....
1. "Big deal, everybody does it"
No, they don't. Unfortunately, plagiarism does happen from time to time but most artists are very honest when crediting original composers.
2. "They're not the only ones to do it."
So it's not wrong to do something just because other people do it too? By that logic, rape and murder are okay too.
3. "But Zeppelin made those songs their own!"
Listen, no matter how well you perform/interpret/arrange a song, you still didn't write it. There is no such thing as making someone else's song "your own."
4. "These are just blues songs and blues songs are all the same anyway."
First of all, it's the LYRICS and MELODY that will get you in trouble for plagiarism, not the chord progression. And if you think that all blues songs are the same, you obviously haven't listened to a whole lot of the blues.
Secondly, five of these songs are not blues songs.
5. "Zeppelin has always admitted that those people were influences."
Yes, they do list most of them as influences but only ever admitted that the songs were not completely original until after getting busted.
6. "They were just paying tribute to their heroes."
Aww, how sweet. They should have paid the royalties too then. And I don't see how it's a "tribute" when you aren't giving them credit for writing the songs.
7. "The guy who made this has no life!"
Really? I would have made it a long time ago but I just recently had the spare HOUR that I needed to piece it together.
8. "This guy is just jealous of the greatest band in the world!"
This one just cracks me up, especially considering that the people who write this would surely suck Jimmy Page's ass if he told them to.
9. "Did you get permission to use these songs for your video? Huh?!"
No I didn't, but using short clips when making an educational video is perfectly legal, especially when the whole point is to give credit back to the people who deserve it. I'm sure they would appreciate my use of the songs much more than Zeppelin's.
10. "Everybody already knows this. Shut up!"
Nope. In fact, most Zeppelin fans have never heard of these original songs. You're just trying to silence something that you don't want to hear by using false claims.
11. "They didn't know about all that legal stuff back then. They were too busy getting high and having sex with groupies to worry about that."
Are you kidding me? Page and Jones were two of England's most successful studio musicians for years before Zeppelin existed. They knew the business inside and out. To say otherwise is to say that they were morons. Also, if it was just an "accident," why did they have to get sued to pay out and why have they still not given up a dime on some of these songs?
12. "shut the fuc up ur a asshole jimmi page is god an ur jus no good enuf to talk about zeplin! u no nothing!"
Huh?
13. "You're a dick."
OK, you got me there. There's no way for me to disprove that one. At least I'm an honest dick.
I hope these answers help. From now on, instead of typing them again (and again), I will just direct you to the appropriate number. Thank you.

Part 1 Thanks for the interesting and informative video, Kev. I've always been interested in the history of songs and pop stars who claim them for there own. One I always think of the "Autumn Leaves " melody which Elvis wrote new words, "Love Me Tender", but also took credit for the melody.
@sixstringobsession Thanks. Actually, I believe Love Me Tender was taken from a song called Aura Lee that dates back to the American Civil War. I forgot who wrote it originally.
Part 2 I enjoyed the Mozart piece. You may want to mention what it is and which orchestra recorded it. That reminds me of a question, maybe you would know the answer. If this Mozart piece was a different arrangement than the original, can the arranger copyright it? Also, then, would that arranger have to site the arrangement he/she worked off of? Thanks!
@sixstringobsession I don't know any details of this recording other than the title and composer, since it was one of the audio tracks that youtube supplies when you have to take the audio out of a video.
I've heard dozens of different recordings of this piece by various orchestras and conductors and they all pretty much sound the same. I think that in the world of classical music, it would be considered blasphemy to rearrange a Mozart piece.
Actually you're wrong about the "Dazed and confused" and "The Lemon Song" part because Holmes wrote it in the yardbirds and actually Led Zeppeling are the yardbirds since Page never officially left The Yardbirds and the bassline to "The Lemon Song" is just a solo with no repetitive line.
@mastercallec You might want to do some research before telling someone that he is wrong. I don't know where on Earth you got the idea that Holmes was ever in the Yardbirds, but he wasn't. Not even close. Even IF he was, Page still should not take credit for writing someone else's song, whether they were in a band together or not.
As for The Lemon Song, both the lyrics and main guitar riff are taken from Killing Floor, not just the bass line. Basically, the entire song is stolen.
@MyRanchMyRules If it was somebody else ripping off Zeppelin, I'm sure their reaction would be very different. Fact is, Page had a lot of pull and inside connections in the music industry, as well as having a manager with connections to the mob. They were a good band, but they also had a lot of advantage over most other poor musicians who just couldn't get a break.
@drrtymac You're right, there is nothing wrong with being inspired by others. In fact, you're supposed to be inspired by others. It is very different from taking other people's songs and claiming them as your own. Most Zep fans I know still are unaware of this stuff.
@eder91 Frankly, Zep is more guilty of plagiarism than any other band that I am aware of. One ten minute video wasn't even enough to cover the songs that they falsely claimed as their own. To be fair, I did mention that Whole Lotta Love was stolen by another band before Zep stole it. Anyway, there have been other bands who are guilty to a lesser degree but I'm done with this. I have MUCH better things to do with my time.

One thing though, it would be nearly impossible for someone to rip off LZ for 2 reasons:
1) A lot of their music is already stolen from someone else...
2) They or their label would file so many lawsuits it would be rediculous.
