by "original" taiwanese dialect does that mean taiwanese before it was influenced by mandarin? btw what the guy is speaking sounds like my language, Hoisan (look up 台山話), which is spoken in Canton province. so similar in sound! All the chinese languages nowadays are influenced by mandarin because of the cultural genocide being carried out by mandarin governments (such as the PRC). if by "original" you meant not influenced by mandarin, then i'm really interested in this video.

Why don't teach minnan in Fukkien school for Minnan children?

@fusshia I guess, but remember back in March when they tried to protest for democracy. The protesters got man handled. I hope the Arab Spring spreads everywhere. Thanks for letting me know fusshia.

@WatashiBit chill out. Why bring politics into this? And plus China doesn't even resemble a communist nation anymore. They call themselves communist but they aren't.

Must destroy all Communist Chinese pigs. For you communist pigs out there, do you guys have DEMOCRACY? So quit being sympathetic towards communism. What have they done so far that's good? They're liars.

yes there are various variations of minnan, taiwanese, fujian etc. the diffrence is the accent. just like in the US the southern accent is diffrent from the northern but they can understand each other. for me it's the same bec i went to taiwan and i can understand them clearly. but if you will compare xiamen hokkien to fuzhou hokkien they are entirely diffrent but they come from the same province of fujian.. taiwanese and xiamen hokkien are pretty much the same

@bonglee It's all 閩南語, then under 閩南語 there are several different dialects. Taiwanese is one and Fu Jian Hua is another. They can be classified as their own dialect because compared to each other they are unintelligible. Meaning if a Taiwanese were to speak with some one from Fu Jian using Min Nan Yu , the Fu Jian person would not understand and vice-versa. So yes 台語 is 閩南語, but it is not 福建話 and they are both 閩南語

Taiyu - Taiwanese language. Linguists say that Taiwanese is a language in its own right developed independentely Minnan (Quanzhouhua and Zhangzhouhua). Heavily influenced by the Formosan Austronesian languages of Ketagalan, Makatao, Taokas, Siraya and to a lesser degree Japanese.
