Erin Langworthy, aged 22, plunges 111m into the Zambezi river after her bungee cord snaps in a horrific turn of events.
She initially blacks out as she hits the water, but quickly returns to consciousness with the help of the icy cold water of the Zambezi river. With 20m of bungee cord still attached, she is able to flip onto her back and begin swimming survival backstroke to safety. Suddenly Erin notices the horrifying sound of the rapids she is about to be sucked into but no matter how hard she tries, the power of the water is too much and she enters the rapids.
Being sucked under, spun around, disoriented were not the only odds she was facing while in the rapids! The 20m cord was getting snagged on rocks and pulling her back under the water, leaving her to swim back up the rapids to unhook the rope.
Eventually Erin was able to swim to the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi river and clutched onto a rock for her life until help arrived.

Luckily Erin was able to hold on, as had she had just gone through a level 2 rapid, but had she continued down the river, just meters away lay a level FIVE rapid!

  • lawsuit?

  • Cords are made up of hundreds of 'short' rubbers strands which are bound every few meters. The strand ends stick out at the bindings givng the frayed appearance. Over 150000 jumps at this site and only one incident. All future jumpers now know that you can surivie a broken cord at this site thanks to Erin. She is a living legend. Now is the time to jump. Live or die trying.

  • Is it just me or does the cord look like it's not been maintained? Really frayed? I wouldn't ever bungee, so maybe this is normal....

  • @imazimbo That's because it is more popular in UK and USA. Statistically, almost any activity in a 3rd world country is less safe.

  • It always amazes me that "having a holiday in Africa" is marvelous as long as nothing happens and when something does suddenly it is a typical 3rd World country and what does everyone expect! I was in the U.K., a 1st world country, in 2005, when the bombs went off! Don't come here if you expect the worst to happen and hope that you are safe in your 1st world life!

  • My son jumped just the day before and when I saw his video I almost had a heart attack! Thank heavens young Erin survived! Please don't blame the accident on "a Third World Country". It happens in 1st world countries too. If you jump you take that chance!

  • I love how the one chick in the background says: "we are worried about our friend".... but so nonchalantly (1:26)

  • @bushtoy well then get the fuck out u moron!

  • this is what happens when you trust a fucking kaffer in africa guys.....look and learn....we live with this fucking shit every day//1111

  • No backup boat? Workers just stands there watching after an accident
