Here's an idea - how about after spotting him to leave him the fuck alone completely? Want to prove what a "man' you are because you're not afraid of snakes - puh-lease. Get a life.
If you wanted to get him on video, I get that. A video of a snake in it's natural environment is fine, but why take it a step further and harass the poor thing? You think the snake wasn't stressed by what you were doing regardless of your intentions? You think if the snake had a choice he'd ask you to do that?
