@WHEEZYMANxxx -- Actually, hedgehogs do anoint in captivity too. It's a natural and normal behavior. Any hedgehog does it when it comes in contact with another smell or taste that is foreign to them. My hedgehog does it.

hedgehogs only "annoint" when in the wild the eat food that is gross to there foes like foxes or snakes then they annoint them selves so they seem gross in the eyes of there foes.

My hedgie always licks before biting, and bites a lot. Usually it only bites my clothes though.
