Rockaway Beach, NY - Winter 2011

This was the beach of my childhood, and it's made an amazing come-back after years of neglect. Beach 90th St is a designated surfers beach which has a webcam, and despite the snow still lingering after the January blizzards, the surfers were out there, enjoying one of the best beaches in the world! It happened to be a beautiful, "balmy" 40 degrees (Farenheit) outside. Real estate is starting to get real expensive here, and I can see why.

I love rockaway and surf here a lot but it is nowhere close to being one of the best beaches in the world

@miked1997 - Rockaway has the best surf in New York! Long Beach is OK too, but the lifeguards there are way too paranoid & strict. Jones and Robert Moses are terrible, Montauk only has this one little beach that has waves, and Belle Harbor is off limits on weekends cause you can't park there. Rockaway may not be Hawaii, but it's my little surfing paradise in the summer, and I'm thrilled it's making a comeback. Which is YOUR favorite beach?

i grew up in brooklyn-but have been bodyboarding semi pro since 10. Used to surf more west of 90th-bell harbor-theres an amazing sand bar-but im not telling. But im always at 90th -and would love a session of some nice waves.
