@desinate 2.3 is.. I think what he mean't by that is that updates from manufactures aren't open source but you can still build you own build from the android AOSP tree.

@katt157 No, as in.. What is actually being changed. On iPhones they try stop it because they dont want anyone customizing their phones in any way apart from what they tell you you can do. Which... Jailbreaking doesnt allow you to do anyway.
Android phones just need to unlock one setting which lets you set root terminal access on anything via the GUI
