Meet Marvelwood's Special Loraxes who try to save the environment one Wednesday at a time! In September, our focus was on surveying habitat on Marvelwood's campus as well as land trust property for the New England Cottontail Rabbit; helping the Kent Land Trust manage an overgrown field to create more habitat for early successional birds and laying out a new MAPS bird banding station in this newly managed field and surrounding forest on KLT's Skiff Mountain property.

From The CT DEP Website:
"Limited research suggests that populations of the New England cottontail (Connecticut's only native cottontail rabbit) have declined dramatically over the past century as a result of habitat fragmentation and competition from the eastern cottontail. More needs to be known about the status of the New England cottontail and its habitat requirements. "
