The stitch seems to be an elongated single crochet - double crochet is something else entirely. This gives a nice, half-double crochet sized stitch, but it's slow. Double crochet is very easy (American double crochet).

Wow, You all are freaking out and being pretty rude. I came down here to comment the same things basically, but I wasn't going to be so damn rude about it. I was going to say I thought dc was yo, insert, yo, pull thru, yo pull thru 2 loops yo and pull thru remaining loops. I was also going to say I yo backwards to whats in this video. It's nice to know I was right, but not from reading such nasty comments from all of you.

Wow, expertvillage doesn't have a lot of experts. This person is doing extended single crochet and calling it double crochet. I'm just glad there are some good crochet videos on here (I recommend the knit witch personally).

The videos are nice and clear and the instructions aren't too difficult to follow. I only wish you had numbered the videos 1-? or Part 1-Part? so I wouldn't have to search for the next section and my "tutorial" had a nice smooth transition. Keep up the good work!

You may have made a scarf, but you didn't do it using standard crochet stitches, because that's NOT what she's teaching here.

ur double crochet is a bit different from the other video

If you can do a better video, then go right ahead.

What she's doing is called an "extended" single crochet. This is a single crochet since she doesn't yarn over before beginning the stitch, but she does add the extra step of pulling through the one loop before yarning over and pulling through the last two loops. This "extended" type stitch can be used with double and treble crochet as well to add some extra height and an additional twist.
I think this person should say "this is how I make my hat", "this is the stitch I use". Once she starts using established crochet terms, and established crochet stitches, she should use the correct terms, to prevents confusion to people just learning the technique.
This stitch is not a double crochet. It is an extended single. She's also yarning over backwards.
