13.3" MacBook Pro. I can't live without notepad++ for my programming (I've tried all the alternative and none hold a candle to notepad++) so I decided to give parallels a shot. I used bootcamp on my last macbook to install windows 7 ultimate but it didn't run very well. (could've been because the last one i had only had 2gb of ram) this time I ran windows 7 home premium 32 bit (mostly chose it for its smaller size, i don't need the feature ultimate offers) and it ran extremely well. In fact, it runs it virtualized better than my 2009 macbook pro did as the live os via bootcamp install. Plus it's a quick little hands-on demo of coherence mode where you can run windows applications as if they were being run in OS X. it's neat.

oh and the ssd is the Corsair F60 60gb model. sandforce controller. cost me $150. best upgrade i've ever done to a laptop hands down.

oh and at the beginning in windows, that paramore music video was streaming over my network from my linux server. using bridged mode in parallels, the virtual machine gets its own IP on the actual network and has full network access. that's impressive stuff.

  • Windows installed in a separate partition or in the same partition as virtual OS?

Which is better - Using Parallels (or VMWare) OR bootcamp for fresh install?

    Which provides max speed?

A single 60 GB SSD is enough for both OS?

    pls reply...

Thanks a lot for the video.

    waiting for ur response...

  • @mohammedthoufeeq sorry for the late reply, it honestly ran about the same. i figured it would be slower being virtualized with parallels but it was about the same. i'd bet the new sandy bridge macbook airs can do this so much faster. 60gb is enough for me, but it may not be for other people. my laptop isn't used often. it's mostly for surfing while on the couch or for taking to work on the weekends to kill time.
