Huge Multicell Thunderstorm - Portrush, N. Ireland, Aug 9th 2010

Huge multicell thunderstorm over Atlantic Ocean viewed from Portrush, N. Ireland on August 9th 2010 at approx 16.00 BST. This cell had a nasty gust front as it approached the beach with intense precip core showing red and white echoes on radar. The precip had a green tinge to it indicative of hail which the vid doesn't show well. Observed c-g lightning hitting the Sea which was cool, caught one of them on the vid. The start of the vid shows this cell from a distance in various towns as I chased it towards the coast. It was so large that I could see it from Maghera while it was still over the Ocean!. www.Nightskyhunter.com

great vid, i live in the mighty Port, this is great to watch does anyone remember wen derry got hit by the heavy rain years ago? i got pics of the clouds on the way in from strabane side.. it was amazing

@37Rusty Thanks Rusty, I don't remember about the major rainfall over Derry but good to know you have the pics. Funnel cloud over Coleraine on Mon 9th recently.

@asteroid42531mckenna , no way, missed that aswell, damn. im stuck in england at min..we had great c-g's last week over the bristol ch. tried to get it on my fone.. not great, few flashes and that was it.... wots with the asteriod address. ?

@37Rusty I have an asteroid named after me called 42531McKenna so I used that as a username as I couldn't think of anything else at the time. Charts are showing storm potential over Britain this weekend and maybe next week too.

@ozthunder Thanks for the comment Michael. There's something very special about seeing lightning over the Ocean which is difficult to describe, it's kind of eerie.
