Good that you're getting out there, but correct work at slower gaits will improve this horse's suppleness and willingness immensely. Best of luck to you...

Oh we've gotten way past this point. This was about a year and a half ago. We have been doing a lot of work over poles and he's finally gotten his head about him.

I'll say. I was quite suprised when I got my first TWH just how athletic they are. Are you in pony club? I'm starting Horsemasters and I will have to take all the pony club tests. I might have to use a different horse to show my diagonals--which so far I'm not very good at--maybe with practise I'll improve!

I am not in a pony club. I just take my horse to different types of shows. This particular show was an open breed show put on by the local pony club. I also take him to local no-sore gaited horse shows as well as various open breed shows. Sadly, it's easier to find good versatility classes at the open breed shows than the gaited shows.

Wow, it's wonderful to see someone else jump with a TWH! I don't feel so alone now.

Definitely! Jumping is so much fun and there is no reason that a horse being gaited should preclude either horse or owner from doing it. It's the best of both worlds.

You're on the wrong lead.

I wasn't jumping him, but yes, he is on the wrong lead in many instances. You see her correct his lead as she finishes the first line. It was his first time ever jumping at a show and he is very green still. I was just happy he behaved himself (instead of taking off running and bucking after he landed like he used to do).
