The stereo phase concept doesn't really work on youtube because it doesn't support stereo, but if you need to understand.. pull your headphone jack out half-way, and you'll get a weird surround effect around your head. That's the same concept.

Also, if you're an Impulse Tracker user like I am, you'll realize it's "Surround" function is nothing more than stereo phasing. It's kinda cool though because you can do some REALLY nice stereo tricks.. Just keep in mind that if you're mixing down to Mono, everything's gonna cancel itself out. :D

  • Great video, it was really helpful :D

  • It's a nice explanation, but, man, playing a song while demostrating how something sounds it's silly, thanks though

  • good explanation and hands on examples. Not sure if the Herb Alpert fit in though - sorry... Still, a great post. Thanks...

  • nice!

I remember the first time I experienced this being almost sleepy (rem phase) with my discman (the headphone cable was as you say)

    thanks for posting!

  • thankyou

  • u could play SongX (with vocals) in channel1, and play SongX's instrumental in channel2 and off phase them, and get an acapella?

  • Love the Herb Alpert.

    Great lesson too.

  • Giggle-ism. I liked that.
