Cunard Cabinet
This Art Deco inspired tambour door media cabinet was designed by Will and Holly Acland. The marquetry, designed by Holly, was carefully considered; the tones and colour palette of the illustration were to be transformed into wood and this had to be kept in mind. Seeing the illustration realized in the medium of marquetry was, for Holly, a whole new experience: her illustrations normally created for print or web.
The tambour door is made up of over 200 strips of wood, on to which the marquetry was laid. The size, scale and detail of the tambour door presented a real making challenge. The tambour door allows the image to move seamlessly around the cabinet.
