Since I have never uploaded a dance by the genius choreographer, Igor Moiseyev , I wanted to show something that does not exist on YouTube. I could be wrong, but i am unable to find "At the Ice Rink" in complete form , with only a 2 minute 55 second excerpt from this dance. It is interesting that the French call the company Moiseyev Ballet and of course, every dancer has extensive ballet training and the regular company classes have extensive ballet exercises.
Talking about the genius of Igor Moiseyev, the first time that I saw this number, I marveled at the section where 3 men come on the stage and perform the most pirouettes that I have ever seen on a dance stage. Moiseyev created some type of special piece to put under their dance shoes, which allows them to turn like figure skaters with more than 20 pirouettes.
I will have 2 other videos from this Paris performance. One is Snow Storm , another winter scene and my checking YouTube could only find the opening 2 minutes of this dance, so I will show it complete. The other video is a slow motion video of the 3 turning men, so anyone who wants to see many pirouettes, even with a special device under their shoes, can count exactly how many turns each man makes.
The Moiseyev Dance Company probably did more touring during the time of the Soviet Union, than the Bolshoi Ballet and Kirov Mariinsky Ballet, so it is possible that more people abroad, have seen the Moiseyev than any other company in Russia.

  • I lived in Moscow for three years and was fortunate to see the Moiseyev company in the Tchaikovsky Hall over and over again. Always a memorable event.

  • Thank you for this! It's gorgeous and a lot of fun, but for me the ultimate "skating ballet" will always be Ashton's Les Patineurs!

  • Wowzers! Everyone was great obvi. The female soloist was lovely, dreamy and angelic.

  • Wow, Stephane Lambiel would envy these guys!

  • wonderful! looking forward to the other Moiseyev pieces as well.
