A 2min promo for my 26min documentary on Ethiopia's Christianity.
In the years of the early 100's, Ethiopia was cut off from Europe by Muslim nations. The early Christian traditions, long lost to the Christianity that developed from the Roman Catholic church, still survive here.
Furthermore, their practices are centered around the Lost Ark of the Covenant, container of the ten commandments.
Their traditions have it that when the Ark disappeared from Jerusalem, it was brought to Ethiopia, and they have a special building which still contains the Ark. Only one special priest is allowed near the arc, and he spends his whole life guarding the building.
It's interesting that, to cope with the loss of their Arc, the Jews developed the Rabbi system. Ethiopia's so called 'lost jewish tribes' don't have any traditions of Rabbis, perhaps proving they do indeed still have their Ark.
There are other tribes that believe in early Kabbalistic traditions, centered around the Tree of Life, but these people are not recognized by Israel as being Jewish.
Towns like Axum also have amazing pre-Christian temples and palaces, like the supposed palace of the Queen of Sheba.
'Modern' Christians and Jews would do well to examine the roots of their religion by visiting Ethiopia and opening their minds to other tellings of the Bible that they assume they know so well.
