Graffiti in Rexburg

REXBURG - It's one of the worst eyesores that can ever happen to a city.

"Graffiti, there's no time limit on it. We have it during the day time, we've found it at night. It just depends on location," said captain Randy Lewis.

Since graffiti can happen at anytime. If you do see someone in the process of defacing anything, be sure to contact the police immediately, and don't confront the person doing the tagging.

"We can't be everywhere, so we ask the city residents to be vigilant. Nature park down by the skater park, we built that specifically for the skaters. And that's one of our problem areas." said Lewis.

When publicly owned places like the skate park get sprayed, it's up to the city to foot the cost of the removal.

"We've had to use sand blasters, sometime paint remover will work," said Lewis.

And that means if graffiti continues to appear here, it's only a matter of time until the cement corrodes so badly that skater's won't get that smooth glide.

"It just create a little damage to the surface," said Lewis.

As we draw closer to the colder season outdoor crimes usually slow down.

"We still get it during the winter months," said Lewis.

Back in June a 16-year-old spray painted 26 businesses in Rexburg.

When the boy was caught in the act by an officer and asked him why he did it, the boy replied, "I was just bored."

Interestingly enough, the skate park in Idaho Falls has had no graffiti because the skaters police themselves.

If these cunts don't want it to look a fucking mess then they should legalise it. Then it would become more an art than an expression of teenage angst. The only reason you see rushed pieces of shit sprayed on the walls is because the law wont give them enough time to create a master piece

I'm from Idaho falls and I live and skate in San Diego now that shit is not graffiti at the Rex park that's garbage true graffiti is an art and part of early hip hops culture and if it's appealing it should be welcome at skateparks those Mormon kids are bord up there that place in ignorance town.
