Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC marked the start of production* of the Accord V-6 Sedan Friday, July 17, 2009 utilizing the plant's flexible manufacturing system to meet customer demand for Honda's lineup of passenger cars and light trucks and ensure the most efficient use of Honda's manufacturing capacity in Alabama and throughout North America.

HMA is now the production source of four Honda vehicles: the Odyssey minivan; the Pilot sport utility vehicle; the Ridgeline pickup; and the Accord V-6 Sedan, as well as the V-6 engines that power each vehicle.
A brief ceremony attended by more than 1,000 Line 2 associates marked the start of mass production of the Accord in Alabama. The first Alabama-built Accord was a top-of-the-line EX-L model in Silver Metallic, equipped with leather interior and a navigation system.

"The quick transfer of production of the Accord V-6 Sedan from Ohio to Alabama in a nine-month time period is a testament to Honda's production flexibility and confidence in our Alabama workforce," said Chuck Ernst, HMA senior vice president. "We are honored to add the Accord as the latest model in our production lineup."
The Accord was first produced in the U.S. in 1982 at the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio. It was the first Japanese-nameplate car produced in the United States. The success of the Accord demonstrated that quality automobiles could be built in America and set a path for Honda in North America. Seven more Accord generations followed, leading to the eighth-generation Accord now being built in Alabama and Ohio. In October 2008, Honda announced Accord V-6 Sedan production would be added in Alabama to allow increased production of Accord 4-cylinder models in Ohio.

  • People can say what they want... But I work for Japanese and they are great to work for. Japanese have been building cars right with the best quality and durability for as long as I've been alive. I will always buy Honda because you get your monies worth and they run forever. So keep buying that American junk over and over and I will keep driving the same Honda. HONDA FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!

  • @maskedgunman and i cant talk about honda cuzz i dont know much about them .but toyota does hire americans..but the american toyota workforce is made up of alot of part timers and temps..and i will bet honda does the same ...a honda or toyota could be assembled in my back yard, but i still will never own any import built here or not

  • @maskedgunman well i am sure our government handed them free land like they have in the past ..and i just seen on the news not to long ago that all the big 3 are hiring ppl ..and if the big 3 go out of country , they do that to stay competitive to the imports ..i dont like it but thats the way it is..so the american car builders are at a disadvantage because of unions and the higher wages they must pay , but even toyota use's parts from mexico ..dont know about honda

  • @390merc65 You say that, but the American manufacturers are moving manufacturing OUT of the USA. On the other hand, the Japanese, particularly Honda, keep opening new plants and expanding the existing ones in the USA as well as Canada. The Germans are building in Mexico, and the Koreans still make their stuff at home (probably because it's cheaper there, still).

  • datta boy...nothng says american more then working for honda..

  • @19dawgs Secondly the 1.8L engine produces much more horsepower than some of the older ones, Top it off with powersteering, A/C, and many of the.

Shouldn't mind the MPG though, the ride is Extremely refined for a car in this category. It's also got alot more room compared to the 93 civic as well as much better ergonomics. And the extra safety is worth it, especially if there is the chance that you might get into a collision unexpectedly (hopefully you never will)

  • people in alabama are so happy to get something besides mcdonalds jobs that they bust their butts at honda. honda runs a tight ship but alabama workers are so grateful that they work their butts off and do not complain. I would love to have a honda built in alabama because i figure it would be a very well made vehicle by crazy loyal alabama workers who are the hardest workers in the whole dang world!!!

  • Everytime I see a new Accord V6 I start walking slower to catch every glimpse I can of it's beautiful body. Especially the Crystal Black Pearl model.

  • I been working since 2007.I am in the AE divison.I love it.I hope I can get hired into the department when its my time to shine!
