This is for...
TOBY SWANN-SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW.
,
ALL FILMED/SHOT IN HD Nov. 17-18th, TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
.
I worked with Toby back in the late 80's, he really deserved a hell of a lot more credit for this cutting edge tune. Pure punk theatre and a good guy.
.
I was shocked that the traffic and sidewalks were so clear, except for piles of garbage bags and a ton of road construction.

.
Had a great talk with the store minder at Exile clothing in the market with a smiling welcome for a fellow Commercial drive local,
I found there was a changed attitude towards greeting people, a big change for Hogtown.
With that said you could shoot a Omega Man remake for nothing! wait that's been done maybe a H1N1 scare video?
.
So many Toronto bands did go on to "fame" Blue Rodeo after a frenzy start, Maestro Fresh Wes, Mesinjah, Derek Beckles of Black Jello became a great spokesman against the Tabacco industry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iEVpmjE2NE 5* and on the flipside JD Roberts went to push war at cnn as John Roberts & Kenny Hotz teamed to become a jester with spencer (Metro prep had great talent! LOL!) . Many others moved on up I guess to at least Lawrence and Yonge. A "happening" is when a group of people make it happen no one is going to serve up a good time better than you. I was so tempted to head back get a big space and give Toronto a little entertainment defib shock or two!
.
This Toronto made indie hit really was at it's peak in the clubs just as the recession of the early eighties hit Toronto hard. I remember it vividly and the cheap space and relaxed venue enforcement generated some of the best known and famous latenight no alcohol clubs. They were safe because they were a tight nit community and everyone punks, mods, new wavers, blitz kids, breakers, rockers, entertainment personalities (John Roberts? CNN) LOL, kids in the hall, etc. all helped boost Toronto into a world class level of success.
Without many venues for all tastes urban crime will just increase, with increased solar warming homelessness will too.
.
I hope that that spark is lit again for this great urban centre of Canada. Create the economy local and keep it that way, it will grow from there.
.
Canada still at war:

I just stayed with on Toby's boat this winter, he's got a awesome life, wife and the old punk has got his own rebellious teen. He's soaking up the sun and rum, working on boats, kicking back after sailing the Atlantic twice. Still singing live.

Punkrock is not so much a look as it is a way of life, different is good.
