Welcome, here is a sweet tutorial that creates a cool sword from start to finish in about 40 minutes. Part 1 covers setting up the scene, bringing in a reference image, creating the sword, and beginning to create the handle.
The main focus of the full tutorial is modeling, but I also do quick lighting, shading, and rendering. This emphasizes workflow, and using the smooth mesh preview to aid you in creating a model. Beginners can try to follow along, but this is more for intermediate users who have an idea of the tools and interface. I have a 7 part 70 minute Maya for beginners tutorials for those just starting out.

  • Man this isn't a good tutorial. Can barely make out what you're doing especially since its too far to really see. I feel like I miss two steps with every direction you give.

  • @thangQanime sorry to disappoint, in future tutorials i did one large window...watching full screen and in 720p should help a ton though on this one

  • Do you have the reference picture available ? Or a link so I can get it?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @OnThaLvL I think I found it on one of the first pages on swords from google image search...I can try and track down the exact one, or you could follow along with a sword similar but more to your liking.

  • Hey Hacobo, how did you display your window in 4 sections like that in the first 50 secs of your video?

  • @StormKat30 just hit the space bar!

  • @Hacobo good,cuz i cant rig :D

  • @undercoverpivotdudes nope, rigging is mainly for complex manipulations (arms, legs, face, head, torso) you can easily move around and animate the entire object with keyframes
