This three-movement work by Turina is little known or played, but we certainly had fun on it, and found it a great learning experience for our group.
Geraldine Chok, violin (13)
Christine Liu, cello (14)
Rachel Breen, piano (14)
Our name is the Cerberus Trio after the three-headed dog (get it, three headed?) guarding the underworld in mythology. Cerberus was calmed only by the music from Orpheus's lyre. Our strengths include everything, but especially appearing enthusiastic, rehearsing productively, drawing large audiences, perfect intonation all the time, and communicating. We study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, most recently with Aenea Keyes and Richard Rogers (no relation) and enjoy "rehearsing" (yes, the quotation marks are necessary). Rehearsals often consist of Rachel on cello, Geraldine on piano, and Christine on violin. We are sorry the pictures are special. You can probably tell we have fun! In some pictures we are performing at a non-descript bunker underground, which doubles as a nursing home. Fyi...
Other performances:
Arensky Trio in d minor (this piece is cool!):

The finale to Beethoven's trio op something: (we also played it at a nursing home, and have previously played the slow, long, variation movement)

Hopefully, someday, we will get along to putting up a recording of the Clara Schumann Trio (hey, here it is!)
and maybe even one of the Mozart or Haydn trios we've performed.

On the history of the group-
In 2008, the group commenced with Rachel Breen (piano), Ila Shon (cello), and Seojin Kim (violin). However, Rachel managed to destroy her violinist's interest in the instrument- she quit violin promply. The group was then joined by Ellie Fukui, who left the group in mysterious circumstances after only a few rehearsals. Rachel and Ila were resigned, therefore, after playing the Schubert Eb trio and a Haydn trio (God only knows which..) to performing the Hindemith "easy pieces for piano and cello". Thankfully, no recording exists. The following year, the new violinist, upon meeting Rachel, decided to opt out of chamber music for soccer practice. So Rachel performed the Shostakovich sonata in d minor with her cellist. Finally, a slightly more successful group ensued with Geraldine on violin and Irene on cello. Coaches have encluded Randy Fromme, Richard Rogers, Andy Luchansky, Aenea Keyes, and Machiko Kobialka.

  • Played gorgeously. Bravo. I didn't know this work of Turina but I like a lot. Very good choice, and your whole is perfected. Thank you.
