After Michael Manley won a second election, the US stepped-up it's efforts to avoid "another Cuba." Political violence and unrest exploded in Jamaica resulting in many people losing their lives. This, coupled with the cutting of economic aid from the US put a severe strain on Manley's 'leftist' PNP government.

jamaica no matter what we go through, it still comes back around, in those times poor was shitty and rich and middle class was better, when it was in that era the poverty was the highest in jamaica now today we are the lowest. the rich and middle class jamaicans are in bigger numbers now, hardly anybody sees us now as how manley saw us.
